At the beginning of the Lunar cycle, we have an opportunity to work with fresh Lunar energy for the upcoming month. Toward the end of this past cycle, I had a thought: write a post once a month right as the Moon wanes new and greets a brand-new lunar cycle. The New Moon peaked this morning in the northeastern hemisphere around 7:22, so here I am taking myself up on the idea to write today. A whole new moon cycle awaits us.

In Human Design, we learn about the Reflector Type, a Type that learns the value of working with Lunar energy and making decisions according to this cycle. One might think it ridiculous to allow an entire month to pass before making a major decision, but sometimes that is what we need as we are presented with opportunities to make choices that are in alignment with who we are (or not). And sometimes this is what the other Types need as well. I, as a Projector in Tropical and a Manifesting Generator in True Sidereal, have used this strategy — on more than one occasion. Maybe I connect so strongly with this strategy because I am a Reflector at night as I sleep in Tropical and True Sidereal. Whatever the reason, it is beautiful for us to work in alignment, and if that means taking on another Type’s Strategy temporarily, then that’s what is “correct”, to use a Human Design term.

You might be wondering, what does this have to do with Reiki? And that’s a good question! So, this month I am utilizing the energy of the moment to share a goal I have set for my Reiki practice, which is to incorporate the Human Design and Gene Keys into the energy work I do with clients in private practice. I have a year and a half of personal experience with Human Design and 4 years of personal experience with the Gene Keys. And while I am a “lay person” in the sense that I do not have a Human Design Reader certificate yet, and I am not an official Gene Keys Guide, I am self-taught and practice using Human Design in tandem with Reiki on myself, my fiancé, and my son at home, in between working full time and studying the systems. It is clear to me that this is what I am passionate about, and if I’ve learned anything as I’ve started my own business, it is that I must be passionate about what I do. So there you have it! I am passionate about these two works that have graced my life, and that I have been working with now for four years. So, why not give the world what lights me up inside, what motivates me to wake up early every day and study, and what I am creating, which I’ve started calling Human Design Reiki.

In the beginning, I struggled with what to say to my clients in session because I didn’t know what energy, specifically, I was working with. I know the biological associations with the subtle energy centers, I know locations of vital organs and how working on the subtle energy system allows the physical body to work optimally because they work hand-in-hand with each other. I know the basics about the invisible auric field around us, but what that energy is specifically was unknown to me until I started working with Human Design consistently a year and a half ago. When I use Human Design, it is a concrete picture of the energy that is contained in the auric field, a more scientific set of subtle energetic data if you will. And while this is quite a complex picture, and it is not everything, it does give us a great deal of insight into the specific energy we hold in our auric field.

Humans are fascinating creatures and for the first time, we have a remarkably accurate tool for seeing ourselves as we have been created, to see nuances, in detail that show us who we really are and reveal to us this truth, maybe even for the first time. What makes Human Design so perfect for Reiki, in my opinion, is the use of the chakra centers that plays a major role in the system overall. And each of the centers have their own specific “gates” that get activated at an individual’s day, time, and location of birth, which tell the unique story of what goes on behind the scenes for someone that you can’t see. This is how we interact with others, and when we interact with energy that does not align with us, we know the difference between right energy and energy that is not good for us, but this takes time. There is a maturation process for everyone, what I call in spiritual terms “transformation.” In other words, it takes time for us to learn ourselves authentically, uniquely, and that is how the process goes. And that is precisely why I feel Human Design and the Gene Keys are here to help us achieve this.
