A few weeks ago, my sister Melissa, cousin Honore, and I went on a small road trip together. We loaded up my little white Honda Fit, and were off to Lake Erie. We don’t live close to the beach, so this is as close as it gets for us. And you know what? It was exactly what we needed.
We arrived mid-afternoon, set up our blankets, and settled in. We were in the midst of many others who had the same idea as us; it was lovely, but crowded. We stayed about 3 hours and toward the end, my sister asked if I could give her Reiki. I was overjoyed with the privilege of sharing my healing hands with my sister, on the beach! We are both lovers of nature, and it felt like all of creation was supporting us, cheering us on as we opened a sacred portal to allow the Spirit of God to show us what was needed. I guided her with some deep belly breathing exercises and then to set an intention for her healing. Each session I have is a new experience and shows me something I did not know before. It also shows the person I am working with something or a multitude of things that invite the deepest healing possible. My sister’s intention was for a complete alignment of her mind, body, and emotions. We started off sitting face to face and ended the session with her lying down on the beach blanket. We were able to identify a few things that needed addressed and then we closed out the session. Afterward, she told me she was experiencing cramping, like her menstrual cycle was starting. She had an IUD removed about 3 months ago and her menstrual cycle hadn’t yet begun to regulate. When we arrived at the hotel, sure enough, her monthly visitor had arrived! This was something brand new for me as a practitioner to witness. We were amazed at the effects of Reiki to her system. Oddly enough, while I was packing for our trip, something inside told me: bring tampons for Melissa. I’m glad I listened to that voice, because I did not yet know that she would truly need them as a result of Reiki.
We arrived at the hotel Sunday evening, Moe’s in hands, and settled into our room. It wasn’t long before my cousin said that it was her turn to experience Reiki. So she got comfortable and I guided her to set an intention for the session. Her intention was to experience harmony and equilibrium in her life and relationships. I smiled and began. The very first thing I picked up on from her aura was a vision of a river. As I shared with her, the vision opened up to show me times when the water is peaceful and times when it is turbulent. She is like the river, moving along the currents of life, strong and steady. She is one with the water, the trees, the rocks, all of nature.
As I moved my hands over her aura, the next thing that showed up was that she is like a magnet. I could actually feel the magnetic pull of her aura as my hands moved along her energy centers. This part was fascinating to all of us, and my sister, who was sitting behind me, said she could feel it too. Later, I asked Honore to tell me what being a magnet means to her, and she shared this:
Hmmm being a magnet…I would say it means I’m like a force of nature, in a good way, like a conduit for good vibes. It’s like I’ve got a natural ability to draw positive things/people while also repelling any negative dark energies. I’ve had all kinds of people tell me they’re drawn to me over the years. Even some really bad ones, but they never wanted to involve me in any dark dealings; rather, they were seeking someone to confide in and vent freely to get things off their chest. Even when I was a child, my mom told me I’m like a “father confessor” figure for people.
As I sit here today and reflect on that weekend, I see more and more that life has responded to my intention to be an instrument of healing for others via the path of Reiki. It’s a bit surprising and unexpected, but every time I share these healing hands, I trust that something even deeper is taking place that I can’t see. It is the mystery of healing that is so fascinating to me.
